Description: Intervening to blunt Covid-19 vaccine misinformation online
In partnership with Weill Cornell Medicine and the Annenberg Public Policy Center at Penn, Critica, a non-profit organization that strives to counteract misinformation about science and health, is pilot testing and refining a method for intervening to counteract online misinformation about vaccines. We seek graduate or other similarly qualified students who will work as "infodemiologists," using the Critica protocol for counteracting online misinformation based on motivational interviewing and other evidence-based techniques. We will train the successful candidates in this protocol and they will then use it to intervene directly online when misinformation about vaccines is posted. The infodemiologists will be involved in iteratively refining the protocol based on the results of their interventions and may be asked to co-author publications with members of the Critica team.

Successful candidates will:

1. Be graduate students or post-doctoral fellows, ideally in a social science discipline such as communications, psychology, or sociology, but those with a biological or natural science background (e.g. biology, chemistry, neuroscience, etc.) and communications experience will also be considered.
2. Be able to devote ten hours per week for three months to implementing the protocol plus approximately one hour per week on deliberative reflection on the online interventions.
3. Have excellent social media and communication skills.
4. Be committed to the ethical conduct of research.

Compensation will be on an hourly basis at a competitive rate.
