Description:SPIE is a professional society with ~20k members, dedicated to optics and photonics technology, research, and industry. An upcoming issue of the SPIE Membership magazine Photonics Focus will focus on photonics and entertainment. I would like pitches for a 2000-word feature article that digs into an aspect of photonics technology used for or enabling entertainment--think artificial/virtual reality for example.
I like feature articles that have an interesting storyline, a cool application, a novel line of inquiry, and/or social or scientific timeliness. Features should interview experts, have narrative form, and appeal to a scientifically literate audience. See the most recent issue of Photonics Focus to get an idea about the types of features we publish.
We value having diverse voices in our magazine. Efforts to use sources from diverse backgrounds and perspectives enhance any story pitch.
