For SWSWA, science “writing” includes all forms of communication, and visual images have been an essential piece of science communication from the beginning. This category honors static visual art, including illustration, photography, graphic arts, comic books, etc. These contributions may include written content, but the emphasis of each piece should be visual. Awards are given for superior science communication done by science communicators located in the Southwest or about science in the Southwest.
We will accept work that is new and work that was published in 2020.
All submissions should incorporate a single-page cover letter that includes the following information:
Submissions open January 15, and close at midnight on March 1. Finalists in each award category will be highlighted on the homepage with brief author biographies. Winning submissions in each category will receive a $100 honorarium.
